Words are like seeds that you plant into the ground, after they germinate you will reap what you have sown. The problem of many persons are caused by the words that came out of their mouths. Many are caught up in the cobweb of gossip. The words we speak determines the level of our spiritual growth. It is very important that you choose people prayerfully pertaining to who you want to speak with and who are your friends.
What is cobweb of gossip?
- It means company of friends or people that make a child of God to behave and act like a heathen. Many of us are the ones undermining our destinies by the things we say.
- Cobweb of gossip is a trap of unrighteousness, unholiness and ungodliness. It is not everything you see you should talk about it. Gossip pollutes your spirit. Proverbs 14:12, gossip is a way that seemeth good to a person but the end thereof is death. Romans 6:21, there is no usefulness in gossip, there is nothing good that cometh out of gossip. Many have died spiritually because of gossip. If you die spiritually you have no part with God. You have to decide the type of things you hear. Any child of God that engages in gossip and entertain gossip, they don’t normally make progress, because they will be polluted. That is why the devil is contending with many.
What is gossip?
- Gossip simply means speaking unrighteousness. Matthew 12:36, call it idle word, in Proverbs it is called snared by the words of thy mouth. Another name is blasphemy. It is unrighteous utterances. A false prophet is a gossiper and a liar, because they are using the name of God in vain. A gossiper is a breaker of God’s commandment (Exodus 20:7), thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for the Lord will not hold you guiltless that taketh his name in vain. We have to be very careful. (Matthew 5:33, 37, Colossians 4:6).
- Destruction of truth and facts, they turn it upside down. For example, using slander; someone will decide to destroy your name to gain an advantage. Slander is a spoken defamation to destroy someone’s reputation. Gossip is a spirit; it is a holding spirit when it grips you it does not leave you. Someone can invent an accusation against you. There are people who hate the truth, but you can do nothing against the truth but for the truth (2 Corinthians 13:8), man do not have the grace to tell others the truth about certain things, because of sentimental attachment.
- Gossip is invented and established lies, in order to gain an advantage.

Don’t be friends with a gossiper/talebearer. Anything they put their hands to do will not prosper.
The problems that gossip creates:
James 1 : 19 - 21, 26- It divides and scatters; it divides families, marriages, it divides and scatter the work of God, it divides good friendships. If you are involved in this type of thing, you need to come out of it, else you will experience death at the gate of your success. James 3:10-12.
- Gossip creates disunity in families, between husbands and wives, disunity in the church in the body of Christ.
- Gossip hinders the manifestation of God’s presence.
- It hinders the move of the Holy Ghost amongst brethrens, because people have different things in their conscience and their mind.
- Gossip kills good things and progress.
- Gossip kills divine relationships; your relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Angels, word of God and relationship amongst the brethrens. The devil can gossip with you in the dream, pretending to be an angel of light to cause problems.
- Gossip kills family co-operation. When there is no co-operation nothing works. Anywhere gossip enters it will destroy that family.
- Gossip kills personal spiritual growth, that is why many are not growing spiritually. Always stand on the truth, even if everyone will abandon you.
- Gossip has destroyed nations and it is continuing to destroy nations.
- Gossip destroy businesses and careers.
- Gossip has derailed many colourful destinies. Some parents are the ones that have destroyed their children destinies with their mouths.
How can you overcome the cobweb of gossip?
- By telling and defending the truth always. If you cover the truth, one day it will speak by itself.
- Break away from the company of talebearers.
- Don’t bring God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in your fairy tales in the name of prophecy, visions and dreams. If you are doing this, you have received your death sentence and boarding pass to hell fire. Bible says, God will not find guiltless anyone that uses his name in vain. Don’t run in the name of the Lord when God did not send you.
- Repent, be converted and be genuinely born again. The Spirit of God will fill your heart, conscience and soul. Any time you want to do something wrong that Spirit will rebuke you.
- Never join the multitude to commit sin and to do evil (Exodus 23:2b).
- Confess all your lies and gossip and ask God to forgive you.
- Engage in prayer of deliverance and restoration.
